Feb 22nd, The Valhalla Hills Nordic trail parking lot was plowed again today, and all the trails were groomed. With enough times around yesterday and today the snow has packed and is staying cold with snow in the trees. Parking areas plowed and trails all groomed. It is weather like this we really dream about snow cats.(Electric).įeb. Skating will continue to be soft, tracks set well however. Next Grooming March 3rd morning, all trails The time grooming all this snow is adding up, but at VHNT the snow depth is 1.2 m or 47 inches.The skating is best on Caribou crossing, Otter Slalom and Bear Cub. Parking lot was plowed again this morning. Rail Trail was track set this morning and Valhalla Hill Nordic Trails were packed and track set yesterday and many again today. There will be good snow to ski on until you April. Warmer next week with a chance of rain showers in the forecast. The rail trail will likely be getting some new snow tomorrow and it will be groomed on Saturday. and I have been widening the skating zone so plenty of room.The sunny spots are starting to see some transitioning, but the snow is generally staying cold. It is your choice and your responsibility to take care of your critter. Same goes for snow on skis and then they go into hands and vehicles. It can get all smeared into the grooming equipment and then we have to handle the equipment. The groomers are really disgusted when they hit a poop patch. ![]() Dogs can carry many of the common parasites the afflict humans. Please fling the poop away from waterways. Please keep dogs on leash up there and a message to dog skiers: It is up to you to bring a poop scoop and monitor your dog’s poops. There is at least one moose using the area of the rail trail at about 5 km up from Reibin Road in Hills. ![]() Valhalla Hills Trails being groomed Tuesday morning and the Rail trail is getting repacked in its extended version up the the Upper Bonanza Marsh. Ski Cross Race Next Saturday! Should be a hoot to watch or try the course. Pick your time and enjoy the sunny days out there. By 5:30 the snow is still a bit softened but the top layer is starting to freeze again, especially in open areas and low spots. By 11 am the snow is softening and easy to control, by 2pm to 4 pm it can be slow which for some skiers is what they want. Clear mornings after regrooming are fast, but the corduroy makes it manageable. Yes it can be icy in the mornings, but you can chose when to ski to fit your ability. Also moose are active along Bonanza creek beyond the regular track grooming. In the last week there has been a cougar on Caribou crossing trail and a young moose today in the Bear Bones trail area. the track set really well and all was hardening nicely by 6:20 pm when I finished skiing. Valhalla Hills trail is regroomed as of this afternoon. Come watch the ski cross races on Saturday! Rail trail was regroomed on the20th. Should be super fast in the morning and thawing by 11am. March 22nd All but Caribou Crossing regroomed early evening. We will stop grooming when you stop skiing! Rail trail is okay but tracks melting in the sunny places. It is going to start melting fast later this week! Caution for the hole in Caribou Crossing that opened under the groomer. It is quiet and beautiful up there in the early evening. Evening ski is excellent with waxing moon and clear skies. ![]() The tracks are still good in spots with less sun on Caribou Crossing in trees elsewhere. March 28th VHN trails regroomed in the skate zone. This maybe our last grooming on the rail trail as we need to bring the equipment up the trail before the snow on the trail melts. On the rail trail be careful on the bridges. There are some holes in Caribou Crossing and other places starting to effect the trail. The snow is still plentiful but it is crusty in the mornings and mostly slushy in the afternoons at least in the sun. We will be grooming the trails and tracking again this afternoon if all goes as scheduled. So many of you followed this page and got out skiing. Soon the what will be know as the Rosebery Bonanza Summit trail will be closed for bears beyond Hills for a duration of weeks to a month until they wake-up and disperse. The rail trail is still being skied also and now there are lots of birds around. The last grooming of the Valhalla Hills Trails happened this afternoon.This is your last chance to ski at lower elevations.
